Presenter: Tim Church, MD, MPH, PhD
Professor, Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Louisiana State University

Tim Church is one of the country’s leading physicians in exercise and obesity research.  As chief medical officer of ACAP Health Consulting, Dr. Church seeks to reduce the production of and destruction from disease by guiding the company in the creation of clinical strategies and disease-specific battle plans. He is also a professor of preventative medicine at Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University, where he  promotes healthy living through research and education in nutrition and exercise biology.

As author of over 200 research articles, Dr. Church has received numerous awards for his research in preventative health. He is co-author of, “Move Yourself, The Cooper Clinic Medical Director’s Guide to All Healing Benefits of Exercise (Even a Little!)”(Wiley & Sons, 2008).  Drawing upon research from thousands of Cooper Clinic patients and research participants from around the world, the book proves how simple activity makes a significant impact when it comes to preventing major diseases and obesity. Unlike many popular fitness books, “Move Yourself,” advocates engaging in pure activity, not an exercise plan.

Frequently used as an expert source for preventative health stories with major national media outlets, Dr. Church has been cited by: The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, NBC’s Today show, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Reuters, The Washington Post, Consumer Reports, Vogue, Prevention magazine, Time magazine, National Public Radio, O, The Oprah Magazine, the London Times, CNN and more.
As a consultant to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee, Dr. Church contributed to their national report published in 2008.  Dr. Church was also an invited speaker at the United States Congress, Committee on Government Reform: Diet, Physical Activity and Dietary Supplements: The Scientific Basis for Improving Health, Saving Money and Preserving Personal Choice.

Dr. Church earned his Medical Degree and PhD at Tulane University School of Medicine and is the former Vice President of Medical and Laboratory Research at The Cooper Institute in Dallas, known worldwide as an international leader in some of the most comprehensive studies on human performance and disease prevention.  Dr. Church resides in Dallas, is a two-time finisher of Ironman distance triathlons and currently is a purple belt in Jui Jitsui under the supervision of Carlos Machado.
