Inclusion 2023: 2023 World House Documentary Film Festival - MLK Holiday Celebration @ Online only

On behalf of the DOM DEI Committee, we welcome you to celebrate the 2023 MLK Holiday with the World House Project. Join us for our Annual Documentary Film Festival & Webinar.

For the 2023 Martin Luther King Holiday, The World House Project at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law within Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host a free, four-day virtual film festival/webinar beginning Friday evening,  Jan. 13 through Monday, Jan. 16, 2023. As in previous years, we will offer a selection of over 40 documentaries, as well as interviews and panel discussions with Dr. Clayborne Carson and guests. The focus of the 2023 World House Film Festival will be “The Crisis of Democracy in the World House.”

The festival is produced in partnership with Bullfrog filmsCalifornia Newsreel, the Camera as Witness Program (Stanford Arts)Clarity Films, the Kunhardt Film Foundation, the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom CenterSilicon Valley African Film Festival, and the USF Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice.

Inclusion 2023: Celebrate Black History Month Dance Performance @ Dean's Lawn in front of the Alway Building

On behalf of the Department of Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, you are invited to attend our Celebration of Black History and Juneteenth on Friday June 9th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on the Dean’s Lawn (in front of the Alway Building).

This event will feature a live dance performance from Kuumba, a West African dance group founded in the Bay Area. This will be an in-person outdoor event, food and refreshments will be available for event guests.

We are excited to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month with a special presentation from Ola Ojewumi – “At The Margins: Disability and Intersectionality in Healthcare.”

Ola is a renowned public speaker and disability rights activist. She has served under the Obama Administration and appeared as a political commentator on MSNBC and Democracy Now. Steinwert has served as the Dean for Religious & Spiritual Life at Stanford since 2019 and has experience as an ordained clergywoman, administrator, and leader in spiritual life. She aims to build relationships amidst differences and cultivate healthy contemplative practices for the transformation of self and the world.
