The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff. We have invited the SCCR’s Clinical Associate Director of Education and Training, Kiera Davis, MSCR, RN, BSN, to present you with a brief overview of ICH GCP, and review the 13 principles of GCP and practical applications.

At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to:

  • State the definition and objective of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Discuss the connection between the Declaration of Helsinki, the Belmont Report and GCP
  • List 2 examples of how clinical trial documentation ensures compliance with GCP
  • Understand the CFRs used in clinical research
  • List common GCP deficiencies and their causes
  • State recommendations to ensure high quality data and participant safety

 Attendance is open to all research staff.

About the Presenter:
Kiera Davis, MSCR, RN, BSN, is the Clinical Associate Director for Education and Training in the Stanford Center for Clinical Research. Kiera is also the Program Lead of the Program Management Office (PMO) which provides oversight of research at SHC Tri-Valley. She has worked at Stanford for 9 years after transitioning from clinical nursing as a pediatric cardiac intensive care nurse. She has over 12 years of research experience and is currently working to improve education and training for clinical research staff and protocol directors across the School of Medicine.

The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff.  We have invited the Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in division of Nephrology at Stanford School of Medicine, Fahmeedah Kamal, MD, to provide you with the review of the definitions of lupus and specifically lupus nephritis with knowledge of diagnosis including when to perform kidney biopsy. The speaker will delve into pathogenesis and renal pathology and equip one with knowledge to effectively treat and manage lupus nephritis.

At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to:  

  • Describe pathogenesis of lupus and lupus nephritis
  • Recognize clinical manifestations of lupus nephritis and utilize appropriate diagnostic testing
  • Review management and treatment of lupus nephritis

 Attendance is open to all research staff.

About the Presenter:
Fahmeedah Kamal, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology. She is part of the Glomerular Disease Center at Stanford and has a busy outpatient and inpatient clinical practice.  She participates as a Stanford PI and Co-PI on multiple clinical trials related to Membranous Nephropathy, IgA Nephropathy and Lupus Nephritis. She is also the Director of Quality and Wellness for the Division. She is passionate about teaching and is the Associate Program Director for the Nephrology Fellowship.
