The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff.  We have invited the Senior Research Scientist in the Division of Pain Medicine at Stanford School of Medicine, Dr. Kenneth Weber, PhD, to provide you with a summary of spinal conditions, including a discussion of their societal impact, the relevant spinal anatomy and pathology, and their clinical management. Spinal conditions are a leading cause of disability and pain globally. The complexity of the anatomy, mechanics, and pathology of the spine can make the management of spinal conditions quite challenging. The speaker will also review recent research aimed at providing improved diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information for spinal conditions through advances in quantitative MRI.

At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to:

  • Summarize the Impact of Spinal Conditions
  • Review Relevant Spinal Anatomy and Pathology
  • Discuss the Clinical Management of Spinal Conditions
  • Highlight Recent Advances in Quantitative MRI for Spinal Conditions.

 Attendance is open to all research staff.

About the Presenter:
Dr. Kenneth Weber, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist in the Division of Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Weber is trained clinically as a chiropractor and completed a PhD in neuroscience at Northwestern University. His NIH-funded research seeks to make MRI more quantitative by developing MRI-based markers that better track sensory and motor function in people with spinal conditions using machine-learning and advanced multimodal brain, spinal cord, and musculoskeletal MRI techniques.
