The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff.  We have invited the Associate Director of Clinical Research at Stanford Cancer Clinical Trial Office (CCTO), Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Research, Nancy Sweeters, PNP, RN, to present you with a hands-on workshop on the complex cases of informed consent that we are faced with every day in the world of clinical research.  In this class will take you through multiple real cases of complex informed consent scenarios presented by experts.

Come prepared to engage, think and learn together what to do when you are faced with a complex informed consent situation.

In this interactive class, you will be able to:

  • Engage with team on presentations about real life complex consenting issues
  • Apply and integrate information learned into everyday practice of obtaining informed consent
  • Access resources of complex cases of informed consent

Attendance is open to all research staff across Stanford Medicine.

Registration for this course is through STARS, activity code SCCR-ICF Cases-101023. The cost of the training is $25, and the course is STAP eligible. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Saba at ssaba@stanford.edu

If you wish to receive credit for attending this course, a $35 administrative fee will be charged to your STAP.
To receive your certificate with BRN credit, you are required to attend the live session, and complete an evaluation at the conclusion of this class.

About the Instructor:
Nancy Sweeters, PhD, is the Associate Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Research at Stanford University.  She started in the role in 2016 and has expanded the program from 4 staff members to over 30 staff members and 190 active protocols. Over the past 30 years as a practicing RN and 20 years as a nurse practitioner, she has cared for children in a wide variety of settings and has focused on clinical research development in rare disease.
Ms. Sweeters started her career journey at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).  From the start of her career, she focused on pediatrics and her work has spanned from urban hospitals, Indian Reservations, traveling nursing, emergency work in Africa (Doctors Without Borders), graduate school at UCSF, nursing management and research in rare pediatric disease. She is passionate about clinical research and hopes her real world experiences in complex clinical trials and with informed consent can help others working in this area.
