The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Stanford University is hosting the annual liver symposium in honor of Dr. Emmet B. Keeffe, who was the Chief of Hepatology, and Medical Director of the Liver Transplantation at Stanford University from 1995 to 2008. Dr. Keeffe published more than 700 original papers, and reviews, and was a dedicated mentor to numerous highly successful academicians across the country.

This year’s symposium will focus on recent advances and future frontiers in liver cancer. Hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma are two major forms of primary liver cancer, which is an urgent global health problem. A multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, basic scientists, hepatologists, surgeons, radiologists and oncologists will provide an update on the state-of-the-art understanding in HCC.

Our keynote speaker is Professor Dr. Masatoshi Kudo, currently Professor and Chairman at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kindai University School of Medicine and President of Kindai University Medical Center, Japan. Professor Kudo has published more than 600 International scientific peer reviewed papers and is a Founding Board member of International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA).

Our other invited guest speaker is Dr. Neehar Parikh, currently Assistant Professor at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a rising star in the field of liver cancer research. He is a transplant hepatologist and clinical researcher who serves as the Medical Director of the Multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinic and Medical Director of their Living Donor Liver Transplantation Program.
