 ABSTRACT:
Over the past 10 years, healthcare organizations have invested billions of dollars in adopting and implementing electronic health record systems (EHRs). Interoperability between EHRs and other Health IT applications have become a national imperative in order to support value-based care. In this presentation, Dr. Nguyen will provide an overview of Fast Healthcare Interoperable Resources (FHIR©) standard and its role in modernizing interoperability as well as extending the functionality of EHRs.

BIO:
Dr. Viet Nguyen is an internist, pediatrician and clinical informaticist. He consults to government and commercial organizations in developing interoperable workflows and technologies. He was formerly the CMIO for Lockheed-Martin and Leidos Corporations.  He is currently Technical Director for the HL7 Da Vinci Project, a collaborative effort between payors, providers and health IT vendors in developing FHIR-based interoperability solutions to enable value-based care. He is also the CMO for the Health Services Platform Consortium and a FHIR Foundation Board Member. He is a FHIR educator and a facilitator at the HL7 Clinicians on FHIR sessions at the HL7 Working Group Meetings.
