Dr. Steve Luby, Director of Research at Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, will address “Can our collective efforts avert imminent human extinction?”

99.9% of all species that have ever inhabited the earth are extinct. Nuclear war, synthetically developed bioterror pathogens, cheap autonomous weapons, cataclysmic collapse of earth’s biome or artificial super-intelligence could drive the human species extinct by 2100. This talk will consider such existential threats, reflect on our capacity to influence humanity’s future and open discussion on what actions we might take.
