Cardinal Walk

On Friday, May 9, Provost John Etchemendy and department supervisors will lead members of the Stanford community on the 8th annual Cardinal Walk, a 1.5-mile journey around our scenic campus. The Cardinal Walk will begin inside the Stanford Stadium at 11:30 a.m. with pre-walk festivities and then walkers will travel around the east side of campus until 1 p.m.  [Map]

All members of the Stanford community are encouraged to take a break in their workday and celebrate the strong culture of wellness at Stanford. Faculty, staff, students, spouses/registered domestic partners and their children are invited to take part in the walk. This is a free event with no required registration.

Event schedule:
11:30 a.m. – Music and light refreshments. The first 2,000 participants receive a free T-shirt
12:05 p.m. – Provost opening comments
12:10 p.m. – Walk begins

On campus participants are encouraged to walk to the event or take the free Marguerite shuttle. For participants coming from off campus, free parking will be available in the dirt parking lot next to Stanford Stadium.

In an effort to support sun safety, this year’s theme is “wacky hats” and prizes will be given away to three people wearing the wackiest hats. Wacky or not, participants are encouraged to wear sunscreen, a hat and comfortable walking shoes.

Last year, approximately 1,650 members of the Stanford community came out to celebrate wellness and enjoy the event.

Want to give a “shout out” to your work group? If you want to share what your work group is doing in relation to wellness, BeWell is accepting bids to give a one-minute “shout out” before the walk. Registration is required and only 12 groups will be selected. To be considered for a place on stage, please contact the BeWell office at bewell@stanford.edu.
