Raj Chetty is a Professor in the Economics Department at Stanford University and Co-Director of the Public Economics group at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research combines empirical evidence and theory to inform the design of more effective government policies. Chetty’s work on tax policy, unemployment, education, and social mobility has been widely cited in media outlets and Congressional testimony. Chetty received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 2003 at the age of 23 and became a professor at UC- Berkeley. He returned to Harvard in 2009 as one of the youngest tenured professors in Harvard’s history and then moved to Stanford in 2015. Chetty has been named one of the top economists in the world by the New York Times and the Economist magazine. He is a recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and is one of the youngest recipients of the John Bates Clark medal, given by the American Economic Association to the best American economist under age 40.
