The mission of the Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) includes offering educational resources, training, and support for investigators and research staff. We have invited the Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Andrew Moore, MD, to provide you with an introduction to lung biology and disease states. The goal of the session is to provide a framework for how to think about different types of lung diseases and how we measure lung health in the clinical and research settings. In addition, the speaker will delve into the socioeconomic factors that impact lung health, difficulties in pulmonary clinical trials, and exciting future directions in lung research.
At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to:
- Understand pulmonary pathophysiology and how it is commonly measured in the clinical and research settings
- Define common sub-groupings of Pulmonary conditions
- Identify how environmental and socioeconomic factors interact with pulmonary health
- Describe the difficulties in pulmonary research
- Identify evolving areas in the field of pulmonary biology
Attendance is open to all research staff.
About the Instructors:
Dr. Andrew Moore, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellow at Stanford. He grew up in Virginia and completed his Bachelors in neuroscience at the College of William and Mary followed by his MD at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and his residency and chief residency here at Stanford. As a fellow here, his research focuses on the use of bioinformatics to develop better diagnostic and prognostic tools in the ICU.
